Aibel promotes a corporate culture where safety comes first. Our primary objective is to make all work practices safe in order to prevent injury and illness to personnel and damage to the environment and assets. Success requires a combination of strong engineering standards and procedures, continuous training and mentoring and a culture where people feel entitled to a safe and healthy working environment. Our Management System is certified to OHSAS 18001 for Health and Safety.

Training

Based on employee feedback and past safety performance, we target training programmes, initiatives and campaigns at each level within our organisation, from shop floor workers and contractors to our executive management team.

Examples of our campaigns include:

Targets

Our annual HSE objectives are established collaboratively between executive management and QHSE managers at project, business unit and corporate levels. Employee organisations and unions, as well as our owners, provide input and feedback on the annual targets. The traditional targets include lost time injuries, total recorded injuries and sick leave.

To drive improvement, we are aggressively pursuing a number of additional key indicators, including:

Performance

Since 2000, reported incidents and, more specifically, injuries resulting in lost work time, have been steadily declining. Our improving safety performance has kept pace with, and sometimes outpaced, growth in the business, overcoming the many challenges of integrating new cultures and work habits, managing worker stress, and finding time to do things safely. Our focus on safety continues to be top priority as we pursue our goal of zero injuries.
